History

Evolution and Impact

Napa’s Welcome Grange was established in 1958, while the state Grange originates in 1873 and its national branch started in 1867. Created after the Civil War, the group sought to unite farmers and help families support each other during times of economic hardship. The Grange is the oldest American agricultural advocacy group with a national scope. Created with the goal of strengthening our community through activities and events that foster increased fellowship.

Throughout the decades, Napa’s Welcome Grange #791 has evolved to meet the changing needs of our community. From advocating for fair pricing for crops to supporting rural electrification, our initiatives have consistently focused on improving the quality of life for farmers and rural residents.

Our impact extends beyond agriculture, as we actively participate in community service and educational programs. Managed by a youth 4-H group, our website reflects our dedication to empowering the next generation of leaders. Today, we continue to honor our legacy by fostering a spirit of cooperation and service within our community.

“The Grange was founded to help the agriculture community. It was a sort of Chamber of Commerce for farmers. While Napa County used to boast more than a dozen Granges, only two remain — Napa’s Welcome Grange and the Rutherford Grange.” Sherry Paukert, Member
